Professional Photography FAQs

What Brides Most Frequently Ask Northern Art Photography

The Basics of Professional Wedding Photography

Q: As a professional photographer, what is your photographic style?

A: First and foremost, story-telling. However, every wedding is a blend of story-telling photojournalism, elegant portraiture techniques, and fun candid moments. Every couple wants different amounts of all of these things and we tailor our wedding day coverage accordingly.

Q: Will you be the photographer on the day of our wedding?

A: Yes, I am the owner as well as your primary/lead photographer. I work with several outstanding photographers and assistants who accompany me to weddings based on personality, photographic style and availability.

Q: What type of equipment do you use?

A: I use professional Nikon camera bodies, lenses, and strobes. I also utilize in certain situations a completely self-powered Alienbees studio lighting set-up on location.

Q: What is your approach to wedding photography?

A: My approach is that I am far more than your photographer. Prior to the wedding, we need to connect on more than a commercial level. We need to be able to relate to one another, feel comfortable around each other and get along well. Our respective personalities need to mesh because I will be with you all day on the most important day of your life. On the day of the wedding, my responsibility as your wedding photographer is to make sure you are comfortable, happy, well-fed, well-hydrated and relaxed as well as to provide you with truly spectacular photos. I want you to remember each moment through the photos we capture and revel in the joy of your day.

Q: What is your wedding experience?

A: I have been capturing weddings professionally for over eight years. I average between 15 and 20 weddings per year. I accept a limited number of weddings per year so I can devote the time, focus and artistry that I want to each couple.

Q: What professional organizations are you involved with?

A: I am a member of WPPI (wedding and portrait photographers International), PPA (professional photographers of Michigan), and Traverse City Chamber of Commerce.

Q: Why should I hire you as our wedding photographer?

A: I am devoted to outstanding customer service and professionalism. My goal is to make your experience enjoyable, stress-free and fun! After all, this is a fun, wonderful, exciting time in your life! You are getting married! I am focused on bringing that out in all of our dealings with a positive, upbeat attitude, prompt responses, and progressive ideas. Every person (photographer/assistant) I work with is trained extensively in customer service and client focus. Your needs, wants and desires are paramount and we will do everything within our power to fulfill them.
